ABOUT GEORGE STREET COMMUNITY CENTRE

George Street Community centre was opened in 1892 initially as a Temperance hall. The Hall has seen many changes over the years and has, itself undergone 2 extensions. One in 1905 to enlarge the hall towards the rear and then a larger extension to the side in 1989. The most recent extension includes the Snooker room and Bowden room along with the current toilets.

The main hall is available to hire to local community groups as well as for private functions. We are very fortunate to have a large public car-park located only seconds away from the hall and to be located on a quite residential street.

Currently the centre is home to various community and fitness groups. For more information and to enquire about hall hire for an activity, local community group or function, please contact us via our contact page.

THE CHARITY

George Street community centre is owned by BFSTC and run by George Street Community Centre, Fenny Stratford registered charity. The charity is managed by a management committee that is made up of active members of the local community whose aim is to enhance the future of the community centre and ensure the centre remains for the use of the local community. The Charity has recently converted to a CIO (Charity incorporated organisation) in 2018. Before the conversion The George Street Community Centre Charity was established in 1982.

Previously the centre was managed much in the same way by a management committee with documents held at the centre dating back to 1945.

One of our main aims and current focus is to rejuvenate the centre and bring it back into popular use for all the community.
